Welcome to Return to Inner Peace.

My mission is to help adult empaths, maybe like you? work through & heal their triggers and anxious overthinking.

On this website I have free information about two holistic practices that I have used and found successful.

To start with I have 5 questions to see if this might be for you or not.

ARE YOU OPEN TO HOLISTIC PRACTICES LIKE GUIDED MEDITATIONS?

DOES USING YOUR INTUITION THROUGH WRITING SEEM INTERESTING?

DO YOU SEEM TO GET TRIGGERED BY THE SAME KINDS OF SITUATIONS MORE THAN YOU WOULD LIKE?

DOES IT MAKE YOU ANXIOUSLY OVERTHINK FOR A WHOLE DAY OR NIGHT AT A TIME?

WOULD YOU LIKE TO EXPLORE YOUR INNER WORLD TO TRY & FIND AND HEAL YOUR EMOTIONAL WOUNDS?
Believe it or not a common root cause of being triggered and anxiously overthinking can be emotional wounds from childhood trauma.  I would say that we all carry around at least some trauma from our childhoods and this is usually not a problem.  However, if they are having an adverse affect on your emotional peace and quality of sleep then it might be worth seeing if you can do something about it.

It is widely believed that trauma in the body happens when your central nervous system gets stuck in fight, flight freeze or fawn mode and creates a lasting emotional wound (Peter Levine et al).  If that emotion is re-triggered you can experience instant outbursts.  This can lead to overthinking, head pain and anxious sensations in the body.  Traumatic events can be one event like receiving or witnessing physical or verbal abuse or ongoing subtle events like emotional unavailability, gaslighting or narcissism.  Also what may be traumatic for one person may not be for another.  Even something small that wasn’t resolved, apologised or reassured properly might affect us in adulthood.

You can experience trauma at any time in life but it is believed that the formative years of childhood creates the most opportunity for trauma to create emotional wounds as we are still developing and also we can often not escape or fight so the freeze or fawn mode is often activated.

Check out these two articles from Psychology Today for more information on overthinking  and childhood trauma.
We all need quality sleep to feel refreshed each day.  Episodes of overthinking cause you to ruminate on past or future conversations, we can distract ourselves in the day time but at night we are completely alone with our thoughts making it harder to ignore and get quality sleep.
We all get angry sometimes but do you seem to get triggered by the same things over and over?   If so you could well have an emotional wound that is crying out to be healed.
If you struggle to to express your thoughts and feelings or even if you find it easy to talk, journaling expressively opens up your creative right side of the brain, whilst using the logical left side at the same time.  With this, opens a window to more unearthed feelings, thoughts and perspectives.
When we say that others have had it worse than me, we stop ourselves from ever looking at our emotional wounds and past traumas. Pretty much everyone has moments and times that are not great and you will be surprised at which events may have caused wounds and at how healing some of those early traumas can make a big difference in your life.
Healing trauma can reduce or remove triggers meaning overthinking could become less too.
Once you get into using this method whenever you need it, it is hoped that the things that kept you awake before will start to dissolve one by one.
Dr Bradley Nelson believes that a trapped emotion is a ball of energy that will lodge anywhere in the body and disrupt the normal energy field of the body.

Somatic healing has long been used to untrap these emotions/balls of energy.
Healing traumas can return parts of you back to your true peaceful nature. Making you also more grounded in your empathic nature.
Facing traumas and old wounds may be a scary prospect for some so should not be done if you don’t feel ready or if recommended not to by your doctor.

The use of journaling and guided meditations is widely used for personal alone use but if you have been diagnosed with depression, PTSD or are feeling suicidal then please consult your doctor or ring Samaritans (UK).
It is possible that journaling or guided meditations don’t work for you.  You might find other things work better for you.  Or if all you feel is slightly more relaxed after a guided meditation then that is really good.

All holistic practices are intended as a continued approach to wellness and not as a one time cure.  And they should always be used alongside any medicine and healthcare treatments not in replacement of.
